![]() Yet this is what our heroes have been doing since forever: Han and Luke in A New Hope, the characters of Star Wars: Rebels in multiple episodes. For example, donning the uniforms of the enemy to deceive them is also a war crime. It is much more possible the writers simly didnt know and didnt think of them that way. Yeah in real life that would be a war crime but it is kinda obvious this isnt what the writers had in mind nor what they were going for. In contrast they are shown to be heroic for "outsmarting" or "deceiving" the bad guys. The heroes are not framed as doing something wrong or evil. ![]() In the series none of the false surrenders are framed as "bad". In narratives, especially simple and straightforward ones like Star Wars, framing is much more important than what is "technically true". To me it is very obvious this wasnt the point. I have seen some people argue that because false surrenders are war crimes in real life and Jedi like Obi Wan and Anakin use them, this is a sign the Jedi lost their way or something.
